Seattle tech reporters Todd Bishop and John Cook have started a new online news venture called Geekwire, ending their run at the Puget Sound Business Journal.
Bishop and Cook left the Seattle Post-Intelligencer to work for the PSBJ and launch its TechFlash site in October 2008.
Their new site doesn't have any advertising yet but lists several corporate "partners," including law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati; site designer Foundry Interactive; and graphic design marketplace Inkd.
Cook lists himself as the two-person site's chief executive officer and Bishop is listed as the president.
Cook and Bishop are joining several other former P-I reporters trying to earn a living with Web ventures, including Art Thiel's Sports Press Northwest and the Seattle Post Globe initiated by reporter Kery Murakami.
They'll also be competing locally with old and new media outlets covering tech, including Xconomy and Seattle 2.0.
TechFlash will continue to be operated by the Business Journal with a new staff, Publisher Emory Thomas Jr. said in a note on the site.
"The change is immediate and we wish them well. But let me be very clear that we remain deeply committed to TechFlash -- and not just its continuation, but also its development and growth," he wrote.
