Testing now for developers
Android fans will be able to make in-app purchases, just like their iOS buddies / mortal enemies, starting next week.
The Android Developers Blog has detailed the system and made it available for developers to test, and declared the launch date by saying:
"Note that although you can upload apps during this test development phase, you won’t be able to actually publish the apps to users until the full launch of the service next week."
The idea was first touted back in January, and now the system is ready enough for developers to give the once over. Within the developers console, it's now possible to upload apps and try out the new purchase platform using test accounts.
In-app purchases will mean that users will be able to add additional content to their apps (think game bonuses, music tracks, eBooks and so forth) without having to go through the browser or a third party billing system.
