Thinner Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 are coming to UK after all

10.1V not the only kid on the block

Samsung?has been in touch with Pocket-lint to confirm that, although representatives in the US told us that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 8.9 models weren’t likely to come to the UK, they will after all.

Sadly, it’s likely to confuse customers as much as it’s confusing us.

Samsung has given us the following statement:

“The 10.1 Tab from Samsung is going to be available in both the 10.9mm and 8.6mm versions in the UK. Neither version is being dropped in the UK,”

To recap on the rather confusing situation, Samsung first launched the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in February at Mobile World Congress, before announcing that it was going to be a Vodafone exclusive.

A month later, Samsung, worried by the launch of the iPad 2, went back to the drawing board, completely re-tooled and re-designed the look of the new tablet and then presented that newer version to the public at CTIA in Floria in March.

The original Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1?became the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V?and the new device named the Samsung Galaxy 10.1.

A Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9?was also launched at the same time. It sports an 8.9-inch screen as the name implies.

The 10.1 will be out in the US on the 8 June and the UK sometime after - over the Summer. Vodafone’s 10.1V will be out in the next couple of months - before the 10.1.

The main difference between the two models is that the 10.1V will have a better camera (8 megapixels rather than 3 megapixels), be fatter 10.9mm thick compared to 8.9mm. Finally the newer, thinner model will feature Samsung’s TouchWiz UX skin on top of Honeycomb rather than just straight Honeycomb.

The question is, which one will you be going for – fat and early, or thin but with a wait?
