TechStars Seattle is accepting applications! Get your startup on!

Last year TechStars Seattle had its first ‘class’ graduating in November. I was at the Demo Day and I was absolutely stunned by the quality of the presentations and by the accomplishments of the teams in just 3 months. It speaks volumes to the kind of support and environment it creates to foster and incubate innovation.

Now you can apply for the TechStars Seattle 2011. Applications are open now until May 20. In the interest of full disclosure I’m a mentor of TechStars, but I wouldn’t be if I thought it wasn’t a great organization for entrepreneurs (I did turned down offers to help other organizations that I think suck for entrepreneurs).

TechStars, like many of this accelerator programs, is heavily biased towards team, not idea. In other words, they care more about the size of your team and the skill set it has than about how awesome your idea is. For me this is the right thing. Ideas are cheap; execution is hard.

If you are considering applying to TechStars it would increase your chances of being accepted if…

  • You are authorized to work in the US and you can move to Seattle for at least 3 months;
  • Your team is at least 2 people, but no more than 4;
  • Your startup is a technology company;
  • At least one of the team members is a software developer;
  • You know and practice GTD & GFA!

By the way, if you apply and you don’t get accepted, don’t feel bad. That’s what happens to 98% of the startups that apply. It’s a very small program, hundreds of applicants (480 last year) and only 10 get in. Apply today!
