After the consumer binge that now blights Christmas, a lot of us, unsurprisingly, are feeling the pinch - however the good samaritans at Orange have launched Tiny Top Ups, which is a new service that lets Pay As You Go customers top up using their loose change from as little as 10p.

This is probably of greater use for people who text rather than make lots of calls, but it's still a decent concept and should allow for Orange customers to stay in touch a little easier. According to Orange 10p will get you one text and 20p will allow you to make a call.

Pippa Dunn, VP of Propositions for Orange commented: "Tiny Top Ups make it easier for Orange Pay As You Go customers to top up using their loose change. It’s a big change to your small change; and with many people managing their personal finances more closely than ever, Tiny Top Ups will help people who are watching their pennies to stay in touch".

Orange also has a couple of promotions to mark the launch which include a "guess the amount" game involving a "huge tube filled with 10p coins", and a doubling up of Tiny Top Ups made during the month of March - so 50p spent becomes a pound of credit.

All we need now is for banks to start making fivers available at cashpoints again; so if anyone agrees, go start a Facebook campaign or, eh, something.
