Broadband and landline also covered
Ofcom has revealed its report of the most complained about telecoms providers between October 2010 and February 2011, and it looks as though Three UK, T-mobile and Talk Talk have all got their work cut out.
The complaints data collected by Ofcom focused on telecoms providers with a 5 per cent market share or greater, looking at landline, broadband and mobile categories.
In order to ensure a level playing field for the results, complaints were calculated on a per 1000 customer basis - with types of complaint including mis-selling, billing errors, lack of service and customer service problems.
In the landline and broadband categories which looked at BSkyB, BT Retail, Talk Talk and Virgin media; Talk Talk took a pounding as it was found that it received the most complaints with 1.78 and 1.28 complaints per 1000 respectively. Virgin Media came out on top with just 0.21 and 0.20 complaints per 1000 for its landline and broadband services.
When it came to Mobile services Ofcom looked at 3UK, O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone, and as mentioned 3UK and T-Mobile came out bottom of the pile with 0.15 complaints per 1000 for Three and 0.13 for T-Mobile. In this section O2 came top with a minuscule 0.04 complaints per 1000.
Ofcom chief executive, Ed Richards, said: "Consumers should have access to as much information as possible to allow them to choose between providers and to take full advantage of the competition in the sector. By publishing complaints data, Ofcom aims to provide useful information to consumers, and also to give telecoms providers an incentive to improve their customer service."
