Day 2 at MIX11 was another memorable one – and for some people it may still be going. Let’s hope people saved some energy for Day 3! I know Team IE did.
We still heard plenty of buzz and feedback from web devs throughout the day on the release of Internet Explorer 10 Platform Preview 1. Wednesday though was about Windows Phone 7, Silverlight, and Kinect taking center stage. Joe Belfiore rocked the house – and showed off hardware accelerated HTML5 with mobile Internet Explorer 9 on the Windows Phone. You can watch the keynote again here: http://live.visitmix.com/Keynotes.
Watch until the end and you’ll hear a cool announcement from Scott Guthrie for MIX11 attendees – Free Kinect’s for Xbox 360 for everyone! Great timing with the news Wednesday on three key features of the upcoming Kinect for Windows SDK: robust skeletal tracking, advanced audio capabilities, and a XYZ depth camera. Check out the new website for the SDK, where you can subscribe to a newsfeed and be notified as soon as the SDK is available for download.
And besides the keynotes, some of the sessions are starting to come online for viewing as well – everything will be posted on the MIX site, and we’ll have a recap here on Exploring IE of some of the top sessions for web developers and designers next week. In the meantime, why not check out HTML5 for Silverlight Developers, or 50 Performance Tricks to make your HTML5 sites faster!
Besides the great sessions, we did a few more things to build our IE community with MIX attendees.
We’ve had some great discussions as people have dropped by the IE booth in The Commons area of the event. Demo stations are running the IE10 platform preview 1, and showing off the new IE Test Drive site demos like Paintball and the new Fish Bowl.
Even from far away in the hall, one of our friends stands pretty tall. Sounds like more people are getting interested in building an entry for our Dev Unplugged contest. The contest gallery is now open and community voting has begun – don’t wait to build your entry and try for a share of over $40,000 in cash and prizes!
Early in the day we also posted out our second MEGA MIXtery box puzzle clue! A lot of camera phone have been snapping pictures of the clues – can’t wait to see how quickly someone solves the puzzle today. And if you’re not at MIX, we’ll post it out for you to try next week.
Most importantly, we found time to take a break and eat. And we did it Animal Style. Yes, for our first MIX @IE Tweet Up, we packed up a small bus and headed over to In-N-Out Burger last night. Why In-N-Out? Well, honestly, we don’t have them in the Seattle area, we wanted to go somewhere off of the convention property, and who doesn’t like a great burger and milkshake?
We had a great turnout of attendees and IE team members, some fun conversations on everything from Las Vegas history to famous internet memes, and even a little entertainment from our accordion-toting Microsoft evangelist from Canada Joey DeVilla.
MIX11 wraps up later today after a final day of sessions. We’ll have a final recap up in the next few days. Stay tuned!
