German students rattle through the ages
VIDEO: History of videogames in 4 minutes

A bunch of game design students in Germany have come up with this short film detailing the history of videogaming in around 4 minutes. It was almost entirely filmed in one shot, and while we'd have preferred a music bed running underneath throughout, the invention and attention to detail is highly impressive.

The games featured (in order) are:

Tennis for Two, Oscilloscope, 1958?
Pacman, Arcade, 1980?
Donkey Kong, NES, 1986?
Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis, 1991?
Street Fighter II. SNES, 1991?
Super Mario 64, Nintendo 64, 1996?
Final Fantasy VII, Sony Playstation, 1997?
Need for Speed: Hot Pursiut 2, Sony Playstation 2, 2002?
Ecco the Dolphin, Sega Dreamcast, 2000?
Super Smash Bros. Melee, Nintendo Game Cube, 2001?
Wii Sports Golf, Nintendo Wii, 2006?
God of War III, Sony Playstation 3, 2010?
Rock Band, XBox 360, 2008

And the whole production was organised in a week, shot in 2 days.

We'd like to have seen the 3DO, ZX Spectrum, and Nintendo Virtual Boy, but it would've been a lot longer a clip.?Indeed, one of the team, Florian Smolka,?even explains one glaring omission: "I noticed that many of you are missing the XBox and Halo on it. It was planned but my friend with the controller called me just before the day of the shooting and said he couldn't find it".

"We're quite aware that we could have used more games or different games but we just wanted to show a small insight into the history of videogames that just shows how far we've come and where our roots are buried". So there.

Enjoy.
