Nintendo confirms $150 Wii, now with Mario Kart

As expected, Nintendo today confirmed that it's dropping the price of its Wii console to $150 and shuffling the contents of its bundle. It had been listed for $200, although discounts have been widely available recently.

The console will now come with "Mario Kart Wii" and a "Wii Wheel" accessory instead of the "Wii Sports" and "Wii Sports Resort" games.

The move comes as Nintendo prepares to unveil the next version of its console in June. Various leaks about the Wii 2 suggest it will have high-definition output, an optical drive that handles 25 gigabyte discs (Blu-ray?) and a new controller with a touchscreen.

Nintendo has sold more than 86 million Wii consoles since its launch in 2006. It debuted at $250 and dropped to $200 in 2009.
