Back on March 1st we launched Dev Unplugged, a contest for web developers to push the boundaries of HTML5 and the limits of modern browsers. It has been exciting for us to watch the submissions roll-in and we?ve been amazed by the creativity and ingenuity that we?ve seen from developers.
Introducing the Finalists!
Narrowing the submissions down to the top 40 was incredibly difficult. Some of the submissions were insanely cool, but didn?t fit into the category of Gaming or Music. Others were great, but just didn?t make the final cut. Thanks to everyone who entered!
The finalists below hail from 21 different countries around the world.
The gaming entries run the gamut from 8-bit platform games to RPGs to location-enabled trivia! We definitely could not have seen some of these applications coming, and that?s a testament to the innovation that happens when you give developers powerful tools like HTML5 and Internet Explorer 9.
Try Them on Internet Explorer 9!
Many of the finalists took the time to create not just amazing cross-browser experiences, but also took advantage of IE9?s Pinned Sites functionality to really start to blur the line between traditional web sites and native Windows applications. Try pinning some of your favorite entries to your Windows 7 taskbar and see what kind of surprises you might find.
Coming Up: The Winners on May 24th
Our judging panel of web superstars is currently working its way through the entries. Although, is it really ?work? if it?s this fun? Although scores are currently being tabulated, community voting has not stopped! Over 3,000 votes have been cast so far. If you have fallen in love with one of the entries, pinned it to your taskbar and spent way too much time at work playing, do the developer a favor and vote for their app!
Voting will close at 11:59pm EST on May 23rd at which point we will announce the 9 winners and the 9 runner-ups. With over $40k in total prizes, every vote counts!
